I have decided to get all of the craft ideas I have collated over the years out of my head and onto paper to share with the fostering service, toddler group and anyone interested on here!
of the first craft sessions I tend to do with children when they first come to live with me or attend toddlers is a lifestyle portrait of themselves!
I use wallpaper or backing paper as its cheap and easy to get to the correct height.
1) the child lies on the paper and I draw around them.
2) the child paints, colours, collages themselves and we talk about colours, textures, what they look like, etc
3) cut it out and for the children living with me it is put on the living room door, at toddlers it can be displayed on the wall. We used actual hand prints rather than cut around hands with this child.
This activity promotes, hand/eye co-ordination, sensory input, sense of self, communication skills and fine and gross motor skills.
Here is a pic of a finished project! Not exactly Monet but resulted in a very proud child!
